One of the sixteen personality types

ENFJ

The everyday you

As an ENFJ, you read what the people around you feel and need, and you tend it before anyone asks. Underneath, you sense where a person or a situation is heading. You notice and enjoy what is actually in front of you. And your weakest habit, the one that bruises you most easily, is cool, private logic.

At your best you are the one who brings people along: warm, attentive, persuasive, and sure of where they could go. People feel seen around you, and they say yes to you. The cost is that you invest in others until there is little left for you, and that a detached critique, yours or anyone else’s, is hard to sit with.

The Subconscious: a figure with a hand mirror for a head

ISTP

You admire the person who watches quietly, then fixes the thing without fuss and without needing anyone’s thanks. That cool, hands-on competence is your weakest habit turned into her strength, which is why it draws you and why you feel measured beside it. You grow toward it by taking one problem apart on your own, slowly.

The Unconscious: a figure cut from black paper, hurrying with an umbrella
Unconsciouswho shows up under stress, and what you can't stand in others
INFP

Under stress the warm facilitator turns rigid and severe. You condemn people in sweeping terms, hunt for an absolute answer, and withdraw into gloom. That is your Unconscious, your four habits turned the other way, protecting you clumsily. It is also why someone who keeps her values private and will not be persuaded can be the hardest person for you to bear.

The Superego: a figure with a paper mask taped over the face

ESTJ

When you are watched you play the administrator: organized, decisive, running the plan by the book and expecting everyone to keep up. You can carry it for a project. Carried longer it wears you down, because it is built from the habits you own least, and it trades your feel for people for a checklist.

Your family

An ENFJ’s four selves are ENFJ, ISTP, INFP, and ESTJ. Those four types share one set of selves, which makes them a family, and every one of the sixteen types belongs to one of four families. That is why your other three are the same as every other ENFJ’s, and why they can be compared with anyone’s. ENFJ is in the East family.
